Friday was #BookWeek Day at St Bede's and it was awesome! Everyone dressed up as their favourite book character (can you guess who we were?) and then we had a day filled with literacy, learning and FUN!!!
We started our day with a Parade, and Jason was one of the lucky winners who won a voucher to purchase a book from the Book Fair! This was followed by our very own Amazing 'Book' Race.. although we were not quite sure why everyone thought we had all the Shortlisted Books 🙂 ha!
Then the Gr 6s organised the St Bede's Sports Session for the entire school before we sat down to a delicious #BookWeek themed lunch from the tuckshop mums. Our day concluded with Sustainability Groups... but not before Alice and Sarah fought a great battle of Circle Time chants! Our duel champions of 'Down by the River' couldn't be separated at the end! We all had a great day... we loved #BookWeek 2016!
Our 6 word stories got an "expert boost" today with a Skype call from Don Goble. Here he is talking to us; answering our questions and guiding us as we continue to explore #6wordstories and #iMovie !
We were very fortunate to have the incredibly talented Joel McKerrow work with us today. Joel is a renowned international poet with a focus on raising awareness about Social Justice - his spoken word highlights injustice that exist in our world.
Previously in class, we explored two of Joel's poems - #Fences and #ForTomorrow We loved hearing his poetry LIVE as he demonstrated how powerful Spoken Word is when performed with passion!
During the workshop, Joel led us through the writing process he uses everyday.
First we completed a word dump. Then we wrote our own poems before editing and performing them. Our next step was to memorize our poems, ready to perform them for the St Bede's community at our #ArtsAlive Showcase in Week 9.
Consensus was that today was one of the most inspirational and awe inspiring days we have experienced. #SocialJustice became real for us and we really believe we can make a difference and change the world for the better.
We hope Joel will be able to visit us at our #ArtsAlive Showcase so he can explore our visual art linked to Social Justice as well as let us perform for him!
Please read our poems and leave comments. We love to read your feedback. It helps us continue to grow, improve and make a difference!
